Blanche Evelyn (Bohacik) Milan, age 90, of Munster passed away peacefully in her sleep November 25, 2024. She was born on September 3, 1934, the youngest child of John and Katherine Bohacik of Whiting, IN. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph J. Milan.
Blanche was an avid reader, daily reflecting on the Bible and regularly immersed in a gripping mystery novel. She enjoyed music, singing in the church choir in her younger years and always dancing to an upbeat rhythm (yes, that includes polkas). She was a diehard Cubs fan and an all-around sports enthusiast who relished rooting for IU or any underdog. She was an even more unwavering supporter of her grandchildren, who, in her eyes, could do no wrong (ever). Blanche was passionate about her family, ensuring that every child felt the warmth and comfort of one of her crocheted afghans. She also loved baking, particularly during her favorite season, Christmas. Every year she baked dozens upon dozens of cookies to share with family and friends, earning her the title of “Christmas Cookie Queen.” As she attempted to pass down her Christmas cookie expertise to her children and grandchildren, her guiding instruction was “If you’re not making a mess, you’re not doing it right.”
Blanche retired from the Hammond Clinic and was a long-time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Munster. She is preceded in death by her parents and all of her brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her four children: Jeffrey (Nancy) Milan, James (Jeannie) Milan, Lynn (Donald Skorupa) Milan, Laurie (Rob) James; ten grandchildren: Katelyn (Ruben), Justin (Ellie), Brooke (Kevin), Joe (Kelsea), Nathan (Natasha), Mara, Danica (Taylor), Alex, Hannah, and Noelle; and two great-grandchildren: Nora and Lincoln. Blanche was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt who will be sorely missed but dearly remembered by all.
Visitation will be on Thursday, December 5, 2024, from 9:30-10:30am, followed by a funeral service at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Munster, IN. Interment will follow at Concordia Cemetery, Hammond, IN.
