Calvin Lee Sleeman, age 93, WWII Army Veteran, Highland, IN resident for over sixty years, passed away Monday, April 30, 2018. Loving father of Mark (Jackie) Sleeman of Highland, IN, Pamela (Thomas) Porter of Highland, IN, Brian (Anita) Sleeman of Simpsonville, SC and C. Douglas (Colette) Sleeman of St. John, IN. Cherished grandfather of Charles Sleeman of Munster, IN, Molly (David) Clark of Highland, IN, Benjamin (Karissa) Porter of Highland, IN, Samuel (Jessica) Porter of Culver City, CA, the late Matthew Sleeman, and Joseph (Allyson) Sleeman of Augusta, GA. Proud great-grandfather of Nolan and Fiona Clark, and Janet Porter. Fond brother of David (Madylyn) Sleeman of Cecil, WI and cherished uncle to many. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Violet Sleeman; his beloved wife of 57 years, Mary; brothers, Robert, Clarence and Keith Sleeman. Calvin was a United States Army Veteran who served during WWII and graduated with Honors from Michigan Tech University. He retired from Inland Steel in 1982 after 33 years of service. He was a longtime active parishioner at the First Presbyterian Church of Highland, and a member of the Indiana Harbor Masonic Lodge as well as the Shriners. Calvin was able to travel to Washington DC as part of the Honor Flight Program which was a highlight of his later years.The family wishes to thank his caregivers Alice, Glenda and Rena, and caring friend LeAnn Biesen. Visitation will be on Thursday, May 3, 2018 from 4:00-8:00 pm at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN and on Friday from 9:30-10:30 am at the church. Funeral service will be held on Friday, May 4, 2018 at 10:30 am officiated by Rev. Linda Skaggs at the First Presbyterian Church, 8727 Delaware St. Highland, IN. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the First Presbyterian Church Endowment Fund or the Shriner’s Children Hospital.
