Charles I. Hasselbring was a giant of man but with a heart that deeply loved his family as well as protecting and providing for them as his highest priority. Chuck also had a mischievous sense of humor and loved family times with his wife, Aleida (Hartge) Hasselbring who he adored and their five children–in addition to the extended family they both come from.
Chuck was the first born of Irvin (Bud) Hasselbring and Loretta (Lenz) Hasselbring in Hammond, Indiana. His sister, Joan Scheerer, preceded him in death and Chuck leaves a devoted brother, David A Hasselbring with loving memories and the knowledge of his brother’s love to him.
He met and married his forever love, Aleida, and they enjoyed 72 years of devoted marriage, lots of love and life’s challenges as a committed couple. Together they raised five children; Charlene Perham (David), Richard Hasselbring, Karen Laratta (Tom), Lisa White (Ken), Dona Kolakowski (Ken), who all find comfort in knowing they were loved, and dad is now with his Savior and enjoying perfect health. He enjoyed 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren who adored him, as well.
Chuck worked in the lumber business most of his life, first as manager of a lumber yard/hardware store then as a new home Contractor, self-employed. He and Aleida, then son Richard, built many homes in the Dyer, St. John, and Schererville areas under the name of C/R Homes.
He and Aleida enjoyed travel and snow-birded to Florida annually, loving the RV life in the Florida Keys, Okeechobee, and indulging in fishing, boating, bean bag baseball and cruising. Chuck was a strong supporter of our Chicago Bears and Cubbies, enjoying watching their games.
He is already greatly missed and has left a mark and impact on all he came in contact with. For those he leaves behind the knowledge of what a blessing he was carries us through the days.
