Chris W. Sebenste, age 71, of Munster, IN, passed away on May 30th, 2026.
Born on April 27th, 1955, Chris was one of three beloved sons born to Leo & Alberta (Roth)
Sebenste in Hammond, IN.
He was a loving husband to his wife of 37 years Suzanne (Browning) Sebenste; a proud &
devoted father to his three daughters Elizabeth Garretson, Jessica (Carmin) Cappetto,
Belinda (Evan) Sebenste; and a cherished grandfather to eight grandchildren and one
great-grandchild (Gage, Drayven, Bishop, Blayze, Griffin, Vivienne, Naomi, David, & Nova
Lynn).
He is survived by his two brothers Wayne (Deborah) Sebenste & Michael (Roma) Sebenste;
his goddaughters/nieces Alysia & Dana; and his nephews Derek, Jordan, and Corey.
Chris was funny, mischievous, and above all else kind. He inherited his mother’s deep love
of animals and is survived by his dog Willow, who will miss him most at naptime.
To his family, who he valued more than anything, he was a steady rock to lean upon, always
ready with a well-timed joke during difficult moments. To his friends, who he treated like
family, he was loyal and constant, the type of friend you could reach out to after four years
only to feel like no time had passed at all.
He was most at home when he was building or fixing something, whether in his garage or at
the kitchen table. Tinkering was a hobby that filled him with joy (and his house with clocks
and antique cameras).
Chris brought a light into the world that shone brightest on those he loved. His warmth and
easy smile will be deeply missed – To Infinity & Beyond.
Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, June 7th, from 12-3pm, with a Celebration of
Life to follow from 3-4pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that those wishing to honor the memory of Chris consider
making a donation to the National Kidney Foundation (https://www.kidney.org/), The
Immanual United Church of Christ Blessing Box Fund
(https://highlandimmanuelucc.com/), or directly to the family to help with expenses during
this difficult time.
