Donald K. Hanft, 53 of Lansing, IL passed away on Friday, August 26, 2011. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 22 years: Cheryl (nee Gnerlich); daughter: Rhiannon at the University of Illinois; sons: David (Shanda) of Highland, IN, Jason and Shawn of California; stepson: Jordan (fiance Shannon Grimmer) Smolar of Highland; mother: Datha Hanft of Highland, IN; sister: Kathryn of Monticello, IN; brother: Rick (Patryce) of Highland, IN; Proud Papa of 10 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; Preceded in death by his father: Richard D. Hanft. Visitation will be on Monday, August 29, 2011 from 3:00-8:00 PM at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN. Funeral service will be on Monday at 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Don was a life long resident of the Calumet region, graduating from Highland High School, Class of 1976; after high school, he became an Ironworker and survived the Cline Avenue bridge collapse, albeit critically and permanently injured. After recovering, he turned a hobby into a professional interest and started a photography business. He returned to the Ironworker trade and was currently employed by Superior Construction Co. as a Union Stewart for the Ironworkers on the BP project. Don was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, donations to the family in his memory would be appreciated.

this has to be so hard on your family, we are praying, and missing him so much, what a great loving and caring person, Rich went through highland school with him and iron working, but his found memories where back in school with the band, he was always there for them and will always be in there heart!!! very good memories from now till they meet again!!
