Dorothy Shaner (nee Shepton) 97, a lifelong resident of Whiting, IN. passed away on Wednesday, August 6, 2025. She is survived by her daughter, Debra Shaner of Naperville, IL.; son, Dan (Susie) Shaner of Munster, IN.; grandsons, Garrett Blahunka of Paw Paw, MI., Sam (Jessica) Shaner of Schererville, IN, and Scott (Natalie) Shaner of Carmel, IN. Many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford “Red” Shaner; grandson, Shane Blahunka; parents, Albert and Pearl Shepton; sister, Joan Noven.

Dorothy was married to Clifford “Red” Shaner and they lived in Whiting, IN their entire life. Dorothy was a graduate of Whiting High School Class of 1946. She became a legal secretary; worked at the Whiting City Hall Water Department and then went on to become the superintendent secretary with the School City of Whiting. She had a stunning career of nearly 30 years with the School City of Whiting. Dorothy was a stellar celloist in her high school years and ranked highly in her scholastics. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

Funeral service will be private. She will be laid to rest next to her husband, “Red” and grandson, Shane at the Chesterton Cemetery, In lieu of flowers, contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in her memory would be appreciated.
