Geraldine Reza Korkis, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and faithful servant of God, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2026, at the age of 86. She was born on February 2, 1940, in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, where she spent her formative years. During her young adulthood she moved to Chicago,Illinois, a place she would call home, filled with family, community, and deep openness of cultural appreciation – especially for cuisines.
Geraldine will be remembered for her sharp wit and sense of humor that could brighten any room. Whether she was making her family laugh with a perfectly timed remark, enjoying her favorite Korean dramas, or cultivating love through her cooking with her children and grandchildren, she embraced life’s simple joys with a full heart. Her life was deeply rooted in her Catholic faith. On July 17, 1999, she was inducted as a Lay Carmelite Order of Our Lady Mount Carmel taking the name Geraldine “Blessed Mary of Jesus Crucified” Korkis. For decades, she dedicated herself to the Carmelite charism of prayer, community, and service.
She is lovingly reunited in heaven with her husband, Binjamin Korkis, and her beloved daughters, Sandra, Geraldine, and Judith, and her granddaughter Christina, who preceded her in death. For 42 years, Geraldine shared a loving marriage with her husband, Binjamin Korkis.
Geraldine leaves behind her loving children, Eugene, Evelyn, Rosemary, Adolfo, Aquilina, and Yousif; her fifteen cherished grandchildren; and six adored great grandchildren.
Though her family grieves her passing, they find peace in Christ’s promise of eternal life and in knowing she has been welcomed into the loving arms of the Lord. Her memory will forever be a source of strength, laughter, faith, and devotion will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. May she rest in eternal peace.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.” Matthew 25:23
