Jadwiga (Harriet) Fabisiak, 87, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 6, 2024. She was born in Lodz, Poland on May 3, 1937. Jadwiga enjoyed playing basketball and was a teacher in Lodz until she married Jerzy (Jerry) Fabisiak on July 4, 1959. They moved to the United States and settled in Northwest Indiana with other Polish immigrants to build a better life. Jerzy and Jadwiga moved to Munster, Indiana to raise their family and where Harriet worked at the local Jewel. Everyone knew her and she would always recommend the best cuts of meats. She also led the Football and Lottery pools at the store with her fellow employees which she continued after her retirement. Jerry passed away in 1990 and she moved to Schererville, where seven years later she met Joe Pavlick. They built a home in White Hawk in Crown Point where they enjoyed cheering on the Chicago Bears, golfing, sitting in their hot tub and spoiling their grandkids for 15 years. For the last 6-1/2 years, Jadwiga resided at Wittenberg Village in Crown Point where she enjoyed dining, playing Dominos and Bingo with other residents.
Jadwiga is preceded in death by her husbands’ Jerry and Joe, along with her sister, Irene, who passed away earlier this year. She is survived by her children: Mary Ann (Peter) Sullivan, Irene (Bob) Beckwith, Rich (Joyce) Fabisiak and her stepchildren: Kim (Jack) Slager and Joey Pavlick. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Maggie and Erin Sullivan, Jessie Beckwith, Alex and Kylie Fabisiak, Elizabeth (Will Ryan), Johnathan and Angelina Slager and great grandchild, Silas Ryan. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 14th at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Ave., Munster, IN from 3-7:00pm and funeral mass on Friday, November 15th at St. John the Evangelist Church (Day Chapel on the corner of 93rd and Wicker Ave.), 11301 W 93rd Avenue St. John, IN at 10:00am with interment to follow at Holy Cross in Calumet City.
