Jeannine R. Rehling (nee Blais) of Munster, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2026 at the age of 85, surrounded by the family she cherished above all else.
Born in Chicago to Theodore and Zoé, Jeannine lived a life defined by love, laughter, and an unwavering commitment to her family. Known for her infectious laughter and vibrant spirit, she was a true joy to be around, filling her home with wit and whimsy, and creating unforgettable memories.
Jeannine was the heart of her home, possessing a unique talent for transforming a house into a warm, welcoming sanctuary. She was a fabulous cook and baker whose recipes—and the love she put into them—will be missed by all. Her cheese coffee cake became a cherished staple at every holiday and family event.
An accomplished X-ray Technician, Jeannine worked at St. Francis Hospital in Blue Island, South Shore Hospital in Chicago and was the Department Head at the Jones Clinic in Munster, Indiana until her retirement.
Jeannine lived for the moments spent with her loved ones, whether they were traveling together to new destinations or gathered around the kitchen table for a spirited game of cards or Scrabble. A voracious reader, she loved diving into books. While she often shied away from the spotlight and was humble about her own abilities, her true gift was in recognizing and nurturing talent in others. She was the family’s biggest cheerleader, gently encouraging her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to pursue their passions.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, Joseph; her children, Kristyn (Byron) Estes, Julie (Chuck) Rosenwinkel & Lynn (Jerome) Korwek; her cherished grandchildren, Lorien, Nicholas, William, Joseph, Ethan and Joshua; and her precious great-grandchildren Anara, Natalie, and Ioan, as well as a wide circle of extended family and friends who loved her dearly. She was preceded in death by her sister, Annette Ernest.
A Celebration of Jeannine’s life will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at St. Thomas More in Munster, Indiana, with visitation at 11:30 followed by noon Mass. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of the Calumet Area or Humane Indiana. Jeannine’s warmth, laughter, and love will live on in the countless lives she touched.
