Joan M. (nee Herald) Miller, age 71 of Schererville, IN passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones on Wednesday, April 23, 2025.  She was born in Evergreen Park, IL on June 7, 1953 to Walter “Lefty” and Rosemary Herald.  Joan grew up in Calumet City, IL.

Joan is survived by her devoted husband, Dave Miller; her step daughter, Terri (Barry) Sparenborg; her loving siblings, Steve (the late Sue) Herald, Priscilla (Jay) Slagel, PJ (Colleen) Herald, Dan (Debbie) Herald, Joe (Jackie) Herald, Bonnie (Mark) Dwyer, Phil (the late Terri) Herald, Anne Marie (Tim) Zatorski and Claire (Buddy) Scardine; her 27 cherished nieces and nephews; her 5 dear step grandchildren; and her extraordinary caregivers Jane Raymus and Jackie Toczydlowski. Joan was preceded in death by her parents.

A Visitation will be on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at Ridge United Methodist Church 8607 Columbia Ave. Munster, IN from 9:00 am to 10:00 am.  A Memorial Service will follow at 10:00 am.  Interment will be private.

Joan was a long-time member of Ridge United Methodist Church.  She knew she wanted to be a nurse at a young age and ended up working as a nurse in 4 hospitals for 41 years.  Caring for others was in Joan’s DNA and she was always there to give her nurturing care to family and friends.  Joan will be remembered for her love of sports.  She played basketball and softball for many years and was an avid Cubs fan.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Joan’s name to Hospice of the Calumet Area or Ridge United Methodist Church.
