John R. Albert, 74, died peacefully in the arms of his wife, Madelon, and with other extended family members on September 17, 2017. He had fought a battle with cancer of the bile duct and liver since June, 2017 and went to Eternal Life at 11:24 a.m.Surviving John are his wife, Madelon (Newell-Anderson), and a step-son, Jon K. Anderson; and numerous cousins from the Albert and Deasy Families.Preceding him is death were his parents, John and Marie (Deasy) Albert; sister, Sharon Albert, and aunts and uncles and cousins.John was born and raised in Hammond, attending St. Joseph School and Bishop Noll Institute. After graduating from Noll, John was received into the Christian Brothers Community where he was a teacher and administrator. He received his B.A. in Social Studies and Psychology from St. Mary’s College in Winona, MN in 1965 and his Master’s degree in Theology from Notre Dame in 1971. He also held an M.A. in Educational Administration from the University of Wisconsin, River Falls and an Ed.Spec. from St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN. He began teaching at Cretin High School in St. Paul; from 1971-74, he was Chief Administrator of the Christian Brothers Retreat Center in Marine-on-St. Croix, MN. He was an administrator and counselor at Brady High School in Wesr St. Paul and St. Bernard’s in St. Paul. He also served as principal in the Everett, Washington Catholic Schools, St. Aquinas in Augusta, GA. and Cardinal Pacelli High School in Columbus, GA. He returned to Indiana in 2006 to be principal of Marquette High School in Michigan City and in 2012 finished his career teaching Theology and mentoring teachers at his Alma Mater, Bishop Noll High School. At Noll and Marquette John began a foreign language exchange program with St. Denis School in Loches, France, which had also set up programs with him in Georgia.John enjoyed music, theatre, reading and gardening/landscaping, and travel, especially to France. He also loved working with Pastoral Councils and other Catholic ministries throughout the United States. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 10:00 am at St. Maria Goretti Church, 500 Northgate Dr. Dyer, IN Interment will be at St. Joseph-St. John Cemetery, Hammond, IN. Friends may visit with the family on Saturday from 9:00-10:00 am at the church.Donations in John’s memory may be made to the Family, or online to an animal or pet charity organization such as the Humane Society, ASPCA, North Shore Animal League in NY, or the Bid-A-Wee Society, World Wildlife Federation.
