Dear Judy and Family, I just learned of Ken's passing from a former student that I happened to run into. I am so sorry for your loss. Ken was a wonderful colleague and a good buddy all the years at HHS. I look back fondly on those years. I retired after 43 years at HHS. Ken and the rest of the faculty was my school family. I am saddened by Ken’s passing. Although it’s been years since we last saw each other, my fond memories of the times we shared are still vivid. During our early years, our family friendship provided wonderful opportunities for us to enjoy our time together. Ken was a remarkable person in our early years, during high school, and his years of teaching. He was always well respected and appreciated for whatever he did. Because we shared the same birth date, he would frequently call to wish me a happy birthday. While his death saddens me, I am happy for the years we had together and am privileged to have Ken as an old friend. Please accept my heartfelt condolences during this difficult time.

Where do I begin? So many memories to share... Ken, when I first met you, it was 1965, I was 11 years old, it was when you picked my dear sister Judy up for your first date! Little did I know, you would become my brother-in-law 4 years later. Through time, we dropped the "in-law" part and just called each other brother and sister. The memories list goes on and on, just a few are... Mom, Dad and I would drive Judy down to DePauw University so she could see you on weekends, I always enjoyed going there because it was such a beautiful campus, Greencastle was such a great little town! During the times that you would come home to visit, whenever I needed help with my homework, you were there! When I grew up, I developed a love of lighthouses, you knew the reason being that the beacon represented God's light to show me the way through the years of many emotional challenges. So what did you do? Through your thoughtfulness, you would bring me a yearly lighthouse calendar, you brought me a beautiful lighthouse sculpture which I have in front of my house among my many plants and flowers which we shared a love and interest in, you were an amazing gardener, such a green thumb!! We also shared a mutual liking of fudge. When you traveled to New Orleans, you would call me just to share what you did and saw as I would do the same thing for you when I would get back from my trip there. I did probably talk a little too much about the beignets! I also recall how excited Mom and Dad were when you and Judy would take them to Las Vegas, also, the times you would call me to tell me about a special pizza deal at Domino's! These memories will always be in my heart and thoughts, your spirit will live on, for the heart never forgets. My deepest condolences go to my dear, loving and caring sister Judy, his daughters Leslie and Angie and his sister Diane, all these wonderful ladies took such unstoppable care of Ken, he truly was so fortunate to have such an incredible devoted, loving family, they were always there for him. That love will carry on as a beacon of testimony! Just as a shell holds the echo of the sea, the heart holds its memories! We hope and trust in God's promises, rest in peace my dear friend and brother! Thank you for the memories! Love, "Sister" Cindy I love you!! ❤️

Very sorry to learn of Ken's, Mr. Darrow as I always addressed him as, passing away recently. He was my freshman high school english teacher at Highland High School around 1980. Always looked forward to his classroom where we enjoyed his many, asst plants...one type I believe was the variegated spider plant. At some point, I remember making him some hanging macrame hangers for him...and they hung in front of the windows with some of his plants. Also, he asked me to help with a door decorating contest for one December to the classroom...I think it came in third. Due to being sick with the flu, I couldn't completely finish it so I believe he did...and was happy to do so and proud it came in top three. I remember sitting in his classroom and hearing his voice; well spoken, kind and always being there to each student when needed. Years later, he patronized my florist in Munster, Earthly Enchantments; still with the same voice I remembered, smile and kind demeanor. My sympathy to his family; he will always be thought of fondly, with thanks and appreciation for his educational skills and making my first year in high school a very memorable one. His contribution and kindness to so many throughout his life, will always be remembered, especially by this former student. "Thank You, Mr. Darrow".
