Lourdes Ylo Gomez, age 93, of Munster, Indiana, passed away on September 29, 2026. Born in Manila, Philippines, on May 15, 1933, she was the daughter of Engineer Eugenio P. Ylo and Evarista Laconico Ylo. A former beauty queen, she graduated from the University of the Philippines with a degree in Psychology.
She was the wife of the late Dr. Cesar Gomez and the loving mother of Bill (Nina), Edmund (Page), and Eric (Regina). She was a doting grandmother to Tim (Katie), Gigi, Marco, Jack (Kennedy), Charlie (Maggie), Stuart, Benjamin, Clarissa, and Max, and a proud great- grandmother to Beau and Lulu. She is also survived by her brother Edgardo and her sister Lorna Ylo Liboro, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers Eugenio Jr., Eduardo, and Edilberto, and her sister Laura (Ylo) Bernardino. Lourdes was an active member of St. Thomas More Church and several other organizations, and she held leadership positions in the Philippine Professionals Association of Northwest Indiana. She loved to entertain and looked forward to spending the holidays with her family. She stayed true to many Filipino traditions, including wearing polka dots on New Year’s Eve for abundance in the year ahead.
Her word game skills were legendary. She was an avid reader of mystery novels and loved working on puzzles with her grandchildren. Every year, she treasured the extended family vacations at the Outer Banks in North Carolina.
A friend to many and a doting grandmother, she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 7, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Avenue, Munster, Indiana, followed by a funeral Mass at 12:00 p.m. at St. Thomas More Church.
