Maria Rajchert, age 83, of East Chicago, IN passed away on Sunday, October 15, 2017. She was born to Stefan and Jadwiga (née Nowak) Kornobis in Sarny, Poland on February 2, 1934. During WWII, her family was sent to Siberia, Iran, and New Zealand. After the war, her family settled in Lille, France where she married and trained to be a seamstress. In 1956, she immigrated to East Chicago, Indiana. She sewed her way into our lives with a simple needle and thread. She will be stitched into our hearts forever. Maria is survived by her children, Jadwiga (Tim) Soy, Joseph P. Rajchert, Joanna Rajchert and Donna M. Rajchert (Timothy) Newberg; grandchildren, Vincent, Jeremy and Stefanie Soy; and loving family and friends in the United States, New Zealand, France and Poland. Maria was preceded in death by her husband, Jozef Rajchert. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at the Carmelite Fathers Monastery 1628 Ridge Road Munster, IN with a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery Calumet City, IL. Visitation will be on Friday, October 20, 2017 at Kish Funeral Home 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and again on Saturday, at the church, from 9:30 a.m. until the 10:00 a.m. Mass.
