Marion Maniotes, 84, leaves this world in the way she lived it- with love and promising to watch over her family. Born Dec. 10^th 1941 in East Chicago, Indiana to a boisterous, yet loving Greek family, Marion was doted upon by her parents and two siblings. As a self-professed “tom boy,” Marion grew up in the Indiana Harbor in what she described as happy times among lifelong friends. She was a member of the Greek Orthodox faith her entire life, and called St. George Hellenic Greek Church her home church, both in her youth and final years. Marion graduated from East Chicago Washington High School in 1959. Afterwards, she attended Hammond Business College, completing their program.

While in high school, Marion started to date the love of her life, John. They married in 1962, and in 1969 they moved to Munster. Marion and John would raise three children, making their own boisterous, yet loving Greek family. As the children grew, Marion found her own voice in local politics starting in the 1970s, where she served as a precinct-committeeperson for 20 years and was the Munster Democrat Town Chairperson. Marion aided in spearheading the petition drive to provide Munster with an elected school board. In 1988, she served on the Rules Committee for the Democratic National Convention in Atlanta, Georgia.  Marion owned and operated her own business, The Academy of Word Processing, for eight years teaching then new office computer technologies. After closing the business, Marion went to work for the State of Indiana as the District Manager for the License Branches in the northwestern counties, retiring in 2001. Marion, with John, enjoyed those years traveling extensively, as well as spoiling their grandchildren as a Yia-Yia. Even in retirement, Marion felt compelled to serve her community by joining the Board of Directors for Haven House, a shelter for abused women. Recognizing her many achievements, Marion was presented the Anne Anton Award by the Lake County Democrat Precinct Organization in 2022.

Marion was preceded in death by her husband, John; parents, Andrew and Della Demantes; brother, Bill (Linda) Demantes; and sister, Connie Demantes Hamer. Marion is survived by her three children: Dionne (Steve) Hulsey, Sam (Susan) Maniotes and Andrew (Guin Duffy) Maniotes; her four loving grandchildren: Steven (Lauren O’Connor) Hulsey, John (Alyssa) Hulsey, Jonathan Maniotes and Patrice Maniotes; numerous nieces and nephews; and a multitude of friends spanning many generations.

Visitation will be on Sunday, July 26, 2026 from 2:00-6:00 PM at Kish Funeral Home 10000 Calumet Ave Munster, IN with a Trisagion service at 5:00 PM. Funeral Service will be held Monday, July 27, 2026 at 10:00 AM at St. George Hellenic Greek Church 528 W 77th Ave. Schererville, IN with Fr. Demetrios Kounavis officiating. Interment will follow at Ridgelawn Cemetery Gary, IN.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Marion’s name to St. George Greek Orthodox Church Schererville, IN or  St. Stefano’s Greek Orthodox Church St. Petersburg, FL.
