Mary C. Smith, age 91, of Dyer Indiana, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2022.
Beloved wife for 59 years of William Dean Smith III. Devoted daughter of the late Benjamin Patrick Cosgrove and Brigid Therese Cosgrove (nee Murphy). Loving mother of Kathleen (Thomas) Sablich, Margaret (Duncan) Marriott, and Patricia (Randal) Smith. Proud Grandma of Tara, Cassidy, Nicholas Sablich, Brigid, Hannah, Kyra Marriott, George and Fiona Smith. Fond aunt, cousin and friend of many. Mary was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. She attended Mercy High School and De Paul University in Chicago. While raising her children, she worked as an executive secretary for various businesses in the downtown Chicago area. She did everything with class including how she dressed. She was certainly ahead of her time.
Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family including holiday gatherings and vacations. Her retirement years were spent bike riding, golfing, and visiting family. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing trivia games and face-timing her family. She was a devoted Catholic who believed in treating others with dignity and kindness and was a life-long model of these beliefs.
Visitation will be held Saturday April 9, 2022 from 9:00 am until the time of funeral mass at 10:30 am at St. Maria Goretti Church, 500 Northgate Drive, Dyer Indiana 46311. Interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery Evergreen Park, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Ingalls Development Foundation Cancer Research Fund or the Hospice of the Calumet Area.
