Mary J. “Mary Jack” Dooley (née Hensley), 89, of Munster, IN, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2026. She was born April 5, 1937, in Hammond, IN.
A lifelong resident of northwest Indiana, Mary worked for NYC Railroad/Conrail for over 40 years until her retirement. She married the love of her life, Charles Dooley, in 1961, and the two shared a deeply devoted marriage. Together they enjoyed camping and traveling on weekends, building a wide circle of friends from both work and life. Mary also loved traveling farther afield, including multiple trips to Ireland, and had a gift for meeting people — especially over a good game of pinochle with anyone willing to join her. She was a longtime member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Hammond and later St. James the Less in Highland.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Dooley; her parents, Fred Sr. and Velva Hensley; and her siblings, Fred Jr., Jerry, Gert, and Doug.
She is survived by her children, Craig (Karen) Dooley and Sharon L. Dooley; her grandchildren, Jaclyn (Trevor) Schulze, Megan (Jeremiah) Bailey, and Patrick Greer; her great-grandchildren, Cole, Quinn, Benjamin, Carson, and Oliver; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be on Friday September 18, 2026 from 4:00-8:00 pm at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN and on Saturday from 10:00-10:30 am at the church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 19, 2026 at 10:30 am at St. James the Less Church, 9640 Kennedy Ave. Highland, IN. Interment will be private.
