Nancy M. Evans, age 74, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 26, 2025, surrounded by her daughters and family.
Nancy was born in Evergreen Park, Illinois, and was a proud graduate of Marian Catholic High School, Mount Saint Clare College, and Northern Illinois University. She was the proud daughter of Eileen Maher and birth father Frances Luebke and later adoptive father James Maher.
Nancy was a devoted mother, sister, friend, aunt and great aunt to many—known for her sharp wit, fierce spirit, and unwavering love for those closest to her. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Glenn A. Evans, and together they raised two daughters, Kerri Evans and Cristin Ekhoff (Adam), who were her greatest pride.
Nancy began her career as a special education teacher before dedicating herself fully to being a stay-at-home mom. She was the kind of mom who never missed a game, a school event, or a moment to cheer her daughters on.
A lifelong sports fan, Nancy had a special passion for the Chicago Bulls and White Sox. Whether she was playing cards, board games, or anything remotely competitive, she brought a fierce spirit and sharp mind that made her a formidable opponent. She was a proud political junkie who followed current events with a passion and never shied away from a good debate. Nancy was a lover of dogs and she was especially proud of hosting “Grandma’s Daycare” for her two beloved grand-dogs. As a self-proclaimed “trickster”, Nancy was known for her ability to bring laughter to any situation.
Nancy was also the cherished sister of Sue Haack (Bob), Carol Goss (Jeff), and Kathy VanVuren. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Greg Maher.
She brought joy, laughter, and tenacity into every room she entered and every challenge she faced. Her strength carried her through many hardships, and she lived life on her own terms, right up until the very end.
