February 19, 1949 - December 7, 2013

Richard “Rich” C. Mantel, 64 of Highland, IN passed away on Saturday, December 7, 2013. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sandra “San” Mantel; daughters, Tammy Potts and Melissa (Ken) Dinsmore; son, Eric (Laura) Mantel; grandchildren, Tiffany (Ricky) Harvey, Kyle Potts, Autumn Dinsmore, Jacob and Lillian Mantel; great grandchild, Quentin Harvey; brothers, Kenny (Vicky) Mantel, Jon Mantel and Neil (Kim) Mantel; sister, Judith Cochran; many nieces and nephews; preceded in death by his parents, Januarius and Cleora Mantel; brothers, Paul and Ronald Mantel; sister, Nancy Mantel. Visitation will be on Thursday, December 12, 2013 from 3:00-8:00 PM at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN. Funeral service will be Friday, December 13, 2013 at 1:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be at St. John Cemetery, Hammond, IN. Loving the gift of gab and a giving man, Rich will be missed by his family and friends, especially Bud Labas. After working for 34 years at LTV Steel, he continued his working career at Pro Met Steel in Chicago for over 12 years. After many years of traveling and camping out west, Rich finally settled in one spot, Rocky Fork Lake where he enjoyed sharing his cottage with his family and friends. Whether it was buying steel or telling campfire stories, Rich jokingly brought laughter to every encounter.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Rich was a very special person and I consider myself very lucky to have known and dealt with him for the past 25 years. His "nothing is so bad that we can't work it out" attitude is something we all could use a little more of.Words just can't express the void created in so many lives by his passing.
