Richard F. Saunders, age 94, of Munster, IN, passed away Thursday, January 23, 2025.
Richard was born in Chicago, IL and was a longtime former resident of Calumet City, IL. He was a proud Korean War Veteran, retired employee of AT&T/Illinois Bell, longtime former parishioner of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish in Calumet City, IL, former secretary of PRCUA St. Joseph the Worker Society #1579, lifetime member of American Legion Post 330 of Calumet City, IL, proud Honor Flight Chicago participant, IBEW retiree and member of the AT&T/Illinois Bell Over the Hill Gang (OTHG) retirees.
Richard is survived by loving daughters Ruth (Jerry) Yothment and Rose Saunders, devoted grandchildren Meagan Yothment and Christopher (fiancée Allison) Yothment, sister-in-law Margaret Saunders, nieces, nephew, and cousins.
Richard was preceded in death by his beloved wife Rita, parents Walter and Frances Saunders, sister Jean Marie, brother Walter (Bud) Saunders, and sister-in-law Evelyn (Raymond) Balcerak.
Richard enjoyed international and domestic travel, was a lifelong fan of the White Sox, and cheered for the Purdue Boilermakers, Blackhawks, and Bears.
Richard enjoyed gardening, attending his grandchildren’s sporting and musical activities, symphony concerts, liked to cook and barbecue, savored a delicious meal, and was always ready for an adventure. Richard enjoyed a good book, listening to music ranging from polkas to old time country, and had a wide range of knowledge on many subjects and current events.
Richard always had a kind word and shared many laughs and good times with family and friends. He will be greatly missed by many.
Visitation on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2025 at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster from 3-7 PM. Prayers at 3:30 PM. Visitation at 9:30 AM on Feb. 3, 2025 at St. Thomas More Church followed by 10 AM Mass of Christian Burial and Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery in Calumet City, IL. Please omit flowers.
