Richard “Dick” J. White, 79 of Munster, IN passed away on Monday, June 17, 2024. Richard “Dick” J. White, 79 of Munster, IN passed away on Monday, June 17, 2024. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary (nee Zalatoris); son, Daniel (Jenine) White; daughters, Debbie (Kurt) Mychajlonka and Donna White; grandchildren, Tiffany Kalk, Stephanie Kalk, and Christopher White; siblings, Thomas (Deb) White, Joanne (Geoff) Geberin, and Ken (Lisa) White; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerome and Frances White. Richard was the owner/operator of Dick’s Body Shop in Hammond, IN since 1972.
Dick enjoyed all things automotive and was a true artist in his field of auto repair and restoration. He cultivated a fun group of friends who regularly gathered at the Shop over coffee, conversation, and some good-natured ribbing. His wit and political commentary were dished out in the unique way that only Dick could do.
He was a devoted family man who beamed with pride over his children and grandchildren. He adored his precious cat, Callie. Dick was generous and always willing to lend a hand to family or friend. If you knew Dick- you loved him.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 from 4:00-8:00 pm at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN. Funeral service will be on Wednesday at 10:00 am at the funeral home. Interment will be at Ridgelawn- Mt. Mercy Cemetery, Gary, IN. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to his favored charity, CAASH Charity CO of Northwest Indiana (www.caashcharity.org).

Fond Memories
So sorry Dick had to leave us. And my heart goes out to you Mary, and the whole family. He will be so missed! I picture his body shop in the sky! When I join him I'll stick my head in, with hot-dog in hand and say how's it going? Dick will start reminiscing and it will be the usual step back in time and a trip down memory lane!
And there are so many memories!
He and I were about the same age. He was born in September of 1944, and I was born in December of 1944. We went to school together, worked on cars and rode our bikes and motorbikes to my dad's farm way out Route 30 past Valporasio, to a little town called “Grovertown”.
We did so much together with our circle of friends.
To mention just a few.
Tom Derolf, Tim & Dave Erb, Bob Hartley, Jack Reidleback, Phil Ruth, Roger Hansen, Bob Anderson and Neil Atkinson, Jon Moran, & big George There are so many more; I can't remember them all - “but Dick could have!”
I am so glad I saw Dick and Mary This past October when we were in town for a wedding. I'll remember it as my last trip down memory lane with Dick.
