Robert “Bob” Przybyla passed away peacefully on March 23, 2025 in Flossmoor, Illinois, at the age of 89. Born on April 24, 1935, in Chicago, Illinois, Bob lived a life marked by deep faith, unwavering devotion to family and friends, and a joyful spirit that touched all who knew him.
Bob was raised in the St. Mary Magdalene parish in South Chicago, where he attended grade school. His Catholic faith remained a guiding force throughout his life. Over the years, Bob was an active member of several parishes, including Holy Ghost Church in South Holland, IL, and St. Maria Goretti Church in Dyer, Indiana. His commitment to service was evident through his role as a Eucharistic minister, bringing Holy Communion to the homebound, and visiting nursing homes monthly, as well as volunteering at the local food pantry. Bob never missed Mass if at all possible, and found great purpose in sharing his faith with others.
A proud and loving parent, Bob often spoke with admiration about his children—Linda, James (Jim), and Richard (Rick)—celebrating each of their unique paths and accomplishments. Family was central to Bob’s life, and he cherished every moment spent together. Bob shared 65 beautiful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Betty Przybyla. She was truly the love of his life. Her passing left a profound void that Bob carried with grace and enduring love; he never stopped missing her.
Professionally, Bob found fulfillment as a salesman—a career that suited him perfectly thanks to his natural charisma and gift for conversation. If you met Bob even once, you likely experienced his gift of gab and engaging personality firsthand. Even when he was uncomfortable, he would joke around with his many caregivers.
Bob was incredibly proud of the fact that he was a Pancreatic Cancer survivor for over 14 years. He was an inspiration to those facing such a diagnosis.
Beyond work and family life, Bob had many passions that brought joy both to himself and those around him. He loved golf, watching the Chicago White Sox and Chicago Bears in person and on TV, dining out with friends and family, and attending plays and concerts. Perhaps most memorably for many in the community, Bob spent several years coaching grade school football at Holy Ghost School in South Holland. Known fondly as “Coach Bob,” he hoped he left a lasting impression on countless young athletes over the years.
Bob was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Betty; parents, Edward and Theresa Przybyla; brother, Edward Przybyla; sister, Sally Ann Iwinski, brothers-in-law, Joseph and Craig Boyd.
He is lovingly remembered by daughter, Linda; sons, Jim and Ric; brother-in-law ,John Boyd; nephew, David (Robin) Boyd; many additional cousins, nieces, nephews and all those whose lives were enriched by knowing him.
We would like to thank his caregiver, Belinda Biloche, who was his “adopted daughter” for the past 5 years. We know his life was better because of her caring and love. In addition, the staff at Sunrise Assisted Living in Flossmoor IL, made his last several months as comfortable as possible.
