Rose Coltun passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2017. She was born Nov. 6, 1933 to Morris and Fennei Burnstein and grew up on the West Side of Chicago. Rosie, graduated from Marshall High School in 1951 and married her high school sweetheart and best friend, Joseph Coltun on March 1, 1952. She is survived by her children Kerry (Suzanne Swirnow) Coltun, Nancy (Donald) Webster, David (Jill) Coltun, Karen (Alan) Yaruss; grandchildren Mark (Keith) Webster, Daniel (Marlin) Coltun, Alyssa Coltun, Sarah and Joseph Webster and her great-granddaughter Maddie Coltun. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe and grandson Kurt Webster.Rose was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and homemaker. She worked as a secretary before having a family and after her children were grown. She was also a talented writer who wrote a series of short stories. Rose was a wicked Mah Jongg player and spent some of her most enjoyable afternoons and evenings with her dear friends playing the game. She gave of herself to the community as a volunteer throughout her life with organizations including Community Hospital Auxiliary, Literacy Volunteers of America, the Adult Friendship Club of the Jewish Federation of Northwest Indiana and Congregation Beth Israel.In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Selfhelp Home, 908 W. Argyle, Chicago, IL 60640, a Jewish non-profit organization that operates the skilled nursing facility where Rose received the highest care following a long illness.Funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 16, 2017 at 2 p.m. Visitation will take place at 1 p.m. Interment will be at Kneseth Israel Cemetery in Hammond, IN.
