| Rudolph Richard Wolak “Rudy” of Highland, IN passed away on February 28th at the age of 98. Rudy is survived by his three children: Debra Schreiber, Thomas (Sharon) Wolak, and Barbara Wolak; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Rudy was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Loretta Grace Echterling Wolak, his two sisters and one grandchild. Rudy was a devoted father, faithful husband, hard worker, and enthusiastic fisherman and hunter. Rudy was born on September 3rd, 1926 in the “Harbor” and graduated from Hammond Tech. He was in the Army during WWII and served in Japan. Upon returning to the States, he was employed at Standard Oil and by his father-in-law in order to build homes. Eventually he became a full-time general contractor on his own. Rudy and Loretta were long-time members of Our Lady of Grace Parish. Upon retiring, Rudy kept himself busy helping others—with the St Vincent Society, with the food and paper drives, with the Angel Tree, and more. He would ask people if there was anything he could do for them, and since he was a handyman par excellence, he could do plenty—build a deck or ramp, figure out what to do with a flooded basement, help decide when to retire an electrical appliance, furnace, hot water heater and more. Rudy had a green thumb. When he was a child, his family had a victory garden and he knew how to grow plants and trees. Friends may meet with the family on Thursday, March 20th, 2025 at 9:30 AM at the Our Lady of Grace Church. Funeral at 10:30. |
