Stephen A. Bolanowski Sr, 91 of Hammond, IN passed away on Saturday, October 14, 2017. He is survived by his wife of 65 wonderful years, Eleanore (nee Kijowski); sons, Stephen (Lynn) Bolanowski Jr., James Bolanowski and Thomas (Maryanne) Bolanowski; daughters, Catherine Bolanowski and Marybeth (Gary Pavelec) Bolanowski; grandchildren, Katherine, Stephen, Carli, Haley and Thomas Bolanowski; brother, Richard (Gene) Bolanowski; sister-in-law, Anna (late Adolph) Bolanowski; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Joseph (Ruth) Bolanowski, Helen (Kenneth) Turner, Edward (Emily) Bolanowski, Chester (Bernice) Bolanowski, Adolph Bolanowski and Harriet (John) Olszewski. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 from 3:00-8:00 pm at KISH FUNERAL HOME, 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN and on Wednesday from 9:30-10:00 am at the church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 7132 Arizona Ave. Hammond, IN. Cremation to follow service. Stephen was born in 1926 in Hammond Indiana and raised in the \”Village of East Hammond\” where he attended St. Mary's grade school. Stephen was a graduate of Bishop Noll (Catholic Central) Class of 1944, where he played football and co-captained the basketball team. He graduated Cum Laude from the University of Notre Dame Class of 1951 with a degree in economics. He served with the U.S. Army of Occupation in post-war Europe and again in the Korean War. Stephen retired from Peoples Bank after 27 years of service. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus since 1954 and served as its financial secretary for 30 years. He was a director and Secretary for Catholic Charities where he was awarded Catholic Layman of the Year. Steve was a Charter member of the Bishop Noll Foundation. He was a founding member–multiple winner– of the annual Bolanowski Open Golf Tournament. He was longtime, active East Hammond golfer at Wicker Park. He has fond memories of Poker friends. He was an avid Notre Dame and Chicago White Sox fan. Stephen and Eleanore traveled extensively and wintered for many years in Florida. He was a devoted, loving, and caring husband, father and grandfather. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Catholic Charities, Bishop Noll Institute or the Share Foundation in his memory would be appreciated.
