In 2005 when I became a part-time spiritual counselor at Hospice of the Calumet Area, Sylvia was supremely welcoming and helpful to me a newcomer. When I shifted into the full-time role of spiritual care team leader, Sylvia continued to provide needed counsel and remained a highly valued partner. Her sensitivity, cooperative nature and good humor were a great asset to the spiritual care team and indeed to the hospice staff as a whole. It was a pleasure to know her not only as co-worker but also as friend.

My beautiful, brilliant oldest sister is gone. She was 11 years older than I. I remember vacationing at Schaffer Lake with her, Rich and baby Paul. We drove back to Southeastern Ave in Hammond. It was their first region home. Sylvia encouraged me to get my degree at Loyola. She was a very good cook, dresser, and swimmer. She and I both make that sinus grunting sound when our sinuses itch. She was an AWESOME pianist, playing Chopin's Revolutionary Etude like a concert pianist when she was still in high school. She and I both love cardinals. We shared a cardinal couple photograph for ten years. I will miss you, Sylvia. And, ma and dad did NOT love Irene more. End of story.

Rev. Randall Baptist Forsythe left a message on January 20, 2023:
To a beautiful lady who always put others first. Sylvia, your compassion for all people, especially those "less fortunate" was beautifully displayed in the life that you led. You gave hope and encouragement to everyone. Your love to all was a perfect example of God's love. Jesus said in Matthew 25:40, "....Inasamuch as ye did it (serve the poor and those in need) unto one of the least of these My brethren, ye have done it unto Me." Sylvia, you surely "did it" unto the least of Jesus' brethren. By so doing, He has now given you your rewards -- which I believe were many. May you rest in the presence of God for all eternity.
