Daniel H. Cortez, 56 of Munster, IN passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family and friends on Sunday, January 7, 2024. Daniel H. Cortez, 56 of Munster, IN passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family and friends on Sunday, January 7, 2024. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Elizabeth Theresa Puente-Cortez; daughter, Christina Cortez; son, Matthew Cortez; siblings, Rosa (Jesse) Cazares, Sara (Ruben) Cendejas, Raquel (Salvador) Cendejas, Elvia Franzese, Maria (Nicholas) Gallardo, Joel (Elsa) Cortez, Marlene (Roberto) Madrigal; many nieces and nephews; Godchildren, Pedro Cortez, Jessica Puente and Isabella Puente; faithful companion, Maxwell. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Luz (Hernandez) Cortez.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 11, 2024 at 10:00 am at St. Thomas More Church, 8501 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4:00-8:00 pm at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN and on Thursday from 9:30-10:00 am at the church. Entombment will be at St. John-St. Joseph Cemetery, Hammond, IN.
Dan was a loving husband, father, brother, and uncle who will be missed by everyone who knew him. His hobbies included drag racing, car collecting, watching NHRA, riding his Harley Davidson, and loved driving his corvette. He was a former employee at Olympia Fields Hospital.
