James Daniel Cerajewski, 92, of Crown Point, IN passed away on Thursday, October 2, 2025. He is survived by his children: Therese (Mike) Niemiec, Jean (Mal) Dixon, John Cerajewski, Kathleen (Eric) Porthan, Dave (Jeannine) Cerajewski, Steven Cerajewski; 15 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan, and his infant son, Joseph. Friends may visit with the family on Friday, October 10, 2025 from 9am to 10am with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Parish, 8303 Taft St., Merrillville, IN 46410. Jim was a business owner and successful entrepreneur. His two businesses included Dunkin Donuts and Palace Draperies. Jim was a devoted husband and father who went along with his wife’s aspirations to have six children in their marriage. His dedication to his wife and children was also documented through video and pictures starting with 8mm film, 35mm slides, and VHS tapes, long before it was easy to pick up your cell phone. These films and photos brought many of our friends and family together throughout nearly 93 years of his life. It didn’t matter who you were, or what the occasion, Jim would bring everybody into the view of the camera’s lens. When his children grew and began to have their own children, Jim, along with his wife Joan, would make every effort to see his grandchildren participate in athletics, dramatic performances, academic award ceremonies, musicals, graduations, high school proms, homecomings, baptisms, first communions, confirmations, weddings, backyard games and pool activities and many, many others. Well into his 80’s and 90’s, Jim was challenged by tasks like changing his own tires on his car, disassembling and repairing irreparable washing machine bearings, fixing garage door springs, solving algebra problems, and researching religious and political topics online so he could share and even debate the information he learned with others. Jim now joins Joan and other loved ones in heaven where he eagerly awaits the reunion with all those who loved him.
