James F. Grunewald
Born December 8, 1930 – passed away peacefully on December 4, 2020 @ 8:53pm in the company of his three sons John, Jeff, & Jay. Preceded in death by his daughter Joan M. Thomas, great granddaughter Emri Thomas, and sister Betty Kolodziej.
Survived by son’s Jim (Laura), John (Sharon), Jeff (Janet), Jay (Catherine), and son in law Don Thomas. Also, survived by grandchildren Chris (Annie) Thomas, Dave (Cassie) Thomas, Susan (Jason) Jernberg, Holly (Zack) Jones, Adam (Kendra) Grunewald, Hilary (Jason) Englebrecht, Ryan, Kyle, Nick Grunewald, Tyler, Emily Zack Grunewald, Jason (Lindsey) Grunewald, Daniel Grunewald, Terry (Hannah) Grunewald and Lauren (Drew), nieces’ Karen Raab, Diane Hess, nephew Kent Kolodziej. He was also survived by many great grandchildren, other relatives & friends. James had an extraordinary work ethic, was a loving proud father, driven by faith in God. He was always there for his family, friends & had a helping hand to all who needed it. He always had a smile on his face and kept everyone he was with entertained. He loved nature, traveling, casinos, breakfast, coaching, dancing, & telling a couple few stories! He just made life fun!

The family can’t begin to express how much he will be missed. But we know he led a wonderful life and will continue his legacy in all that we do.
James will be laid to rest at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens in Crown Point. A memorial service celebration will be held at a later date due to present circumstances.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in James’s name to St Maria Goretti Church of Dyer, IN. or St. Thomas More Church, Munster, IN.
