On Monday, November 22, 2021, Michele Lynn DuTour-Walavich, a loving wife and
sister passed away at age 65.
Michele was born on May 21, 1956 in Kankakee, IL to Herbert and Iona DuTour. Then in
1974, she graduated from Crete-Monee High School in Crete, IL. She then attended
Prairie State College in Chicago Heights, IL for an Associate Degree in Finance. After
working for various accounting firms, she went to University of Illinois-UrbanaChampaign graduating in 2002 with a CPA degree. She then worked with Intuit and
QuickBooks until her demise.
On May 11, 1995, she married Leonard Walavich and moved to Munster, IN.
Michele had a passion for cooking and helped out at the local food bank. She was an
avid gardener and enjoyed being outdoors to no limits. She was also a devoted
volunteer in many organizations in Northwest Indiana, which included AARP Tax Relief
Program, Cancer Resource Centre, Center for Visual & Performing Arts, Indiana Lions
25A Eyeglass Missions, Munster Lions KidSight, and VFW Woman’s Auxiliary. Michele
organized Northwest Indiana Summer Kids Camp, which she dearly enjoyed being with
children.
Michele is preceded in death by her husband, Leonard, her mother Iona DuTour. She is
survived by her father, Herbert DuTour and Karen DuTour (step mother), her sisters
Sharon Selk and Julie Zima, her brother Mark DuTour, nieces and nephews.
The celebration of life and memorial services will be held at Kish Funeral Home,
10000 Calumet Ave., Munster, IN 46321 and as follows:
Celebration of Life: Monday, November 29th from 9:00 – 11:00 am
Memorial Service: Monday, November 29th at 11 am
Laid to Rest: Monday, November 29th at 1 pm
