Monica D. Simpson, a beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away unexpectedly on May 17, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on May 4, 1944, in Chicago, Monica was the daughter of James Jordan and Evelyn (Lawson) Jordan. She lived a life filled with love, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to caring for others, traits that defined her both personally and professionally.
After graduating with a nursing degree from Purdue University Calumet, Monica dedicated her career to the healthcare field, serving as a registered nurse and surgical nurse on the open-heart team at Methodist Hospital. Her commitment to her patients and her expertise in nursing were evident throughout her distinguished career. Monica’s work was not just a profession; it was a reflection of her nurturing spirit and her desire to help those in need.
In 1970, Monica married Robert Simpson. Together, they built a beautiful family and shared countless memories. Monica was preceded in death by her husband Robert. She is survived by her three loving children: Michael (Laura) Keller, Karen Stone, and Marybeth (the late Michael Zarb) Simpson. Monica was a loving grandmother to her four grandchildren, Amanda, Logan, Breanna, and Hope Stone, who brought immense joy to her life.
Monica’s warmth extended beyond her immediate family. She was known for her caring, generous, and energetic nature, always putting others before herself. Her home was a sanctuary of love, laughter, and delicious food, as she was a great cook who enjoyed hosting summer parties in her backyard. She found joy in simple pleasures, such as reading and playing bunco with friends, and her thoughtful spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
Throughout her life, Monica exemplified what it meant to be a caregiver. Her wisdom and strength were a guiding light for her family and friends. She touched the lives of many, offering support and encouragement, and her legacy of kindness will live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
Monica’s funeral service will be held on May 31, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Kish Funeral Home, where family and friends will gather to honor her remarkable life and share cherished memories.
