In Loving Memory of Roger J. Ferreira
November 19, 1965 – July 23, 2025
With profound sadness and deep love, we announce the passing of Roger James Ferreira, who left this world on July 23, 2025 at the age of 59. A proud United States Marine, dedicated correctional officer, and cherished family man, Roger lived a life of integrity, service, and strength.
Born in Chicago, Illinois, Roger was the beloved son of Rogelio and Mireya Ferreira. From a young age, he displayed a deep sense of duty and fierce loyalty—qualities that would shape the course of his life. After graduating from Bowen High School on the Southeast Side of Chicago, he answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps.
Roger served with honor and pride, living out the Marine Corps values of honor, courage, and commitment—principles he carried with him long after his military service ended.
Following his time in the Marines, Roger continued his commitment to public service as a correctional officer. He spent many years upholding justice and mentoring those around him, leading with quiet strength, unshakable discipline, and steadfast integrity.
But beyond the uniform and the badge, Roger was a man of immense heart. He was a devoted husband to Enelyn Ferreira, a loving father to Roger and Danielle Ferreira, and a proud grandfather to Zadier and Amado Ferreira. As a brother, son, and loyal friend, he was a steady presence — known for his firm tone, easy laugh, and the kind of wisdom he shared not with many words, but through quiet action.
Roger had a remarkable ability to connect with people from all walks of life. Whether through stories of his youth or simply through his presence, he made others feel seen and valued. He loved his Cubs — even working for the team during multiple summers — and he had a deep passion for collecting toys, boasting one of the greatest Hot Wheels collections around. He had a special love for classic cars, especially his cherished 1970 Chevy Impala.
But above all, Roger loved his family. It was a love that radiated from him — strong, steadfast, and deeply infectious to everyone lucky enough to be in his orbit.
He is survived by his mother, Mireya Ferreira; his beloved wife, Enelyn Ferreira; his children, Danielle Ferreira and Roger Ferreira; his daughter-in-law, Susy Ferreira; and his cherished grandchildren, Zadier and Amado Ferreira. He is also survived by his sister, Yolanda Van Hecke, and his nephew, Jonathan Van Hecke.
He was preceded in death by his father, Rogelio Ferreira, and his brother-in-law, Jeffrey Van Hecke.
Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing that Roger lived with purpose and joy, stood firmly for what was right, and left behind a legacy of strength, honor, and love.
