Albert Cueller, age 93, of Munster, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2026. Albert was the oldest of 6 siblings and was preceded in death by his sister Loretta and brothers Frank, Alfred and Arthur. He is survived by one brother, Henry.

Albert, known to many as “Nito”, was born June 27, 1932 in the South Deering neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois to parents Albert Cueller Sr. and Elena (nee Zamora) Cueller. Albert married Geraldine (Gutierrez) Cueller and raised 5 children: Albert Cueller III, Anthony (Dawne), Daniel, Susanne (Don) and Gerry (Lauren). He was the grandfather of 10: Patrick, Elena, Alexander, Nicolas, Antonio, Gustavo, Samuel, Joseph, Maximilian and Julian.

Nito was a family man and forged bonds of friendships that lasted a lifetime. Al graduated from Bowen High School in South Chicago in 1950 and enjoyed childhood memories of 16” Chicago softball and fishing with his brothers. He proudly enlisted in the Navy & did his boot camp at Great Lakes Navy Training Command. He later served in the United States Navy during the Korean War on the USS Beatty DD 756 from 1952-1956. As he was finishing his time on the USS Beatty, his brother Arthur was just beginning his run on the same ship. He shared many memories of his wonderful travels around the world while in the Navy.

He then went on to college at the Illinois Institute of Technology. Albert’s career began at Wisconsin Steel in South Deering after high school until its closing many years later. He then became a “train man” and worked for Metra Railroad where he retired in 1994.

Throughout his life he enjoyed fishing and sports with his children & brothers. After retiring he developed a passion for gardening and working on his home and small rental properties. He volunteered his time with ESL (English as a Second Language) classes in order to help immigrants in his community and with Meals on Wheels delivering meals to senior citizens & other homebound individuals. He was intelligent and a wonderful teacher who often received praise & gratitude from his ESL students. Education was always important to him so all 5 of his children graduated college and some earned advanced law degrees. He was an accomplished handyman, could fix anything and always helped family members and neighbors. He will be long remembered for his strong work ethic, integrity, love of life, and love for his large family.
