Alex Ustian, 91 of Lansing, IL passed away on Friday, March 4, 2011 at Community Hospital. He was married on June 6, 1942 to his loving wife, Mary Ann “Pepper”, “Maggie” (nee Zemen). They had four children, sons, Dan (Ramona) and Jim (Claudia), daughters, Joyce (late Doug) Terandy and Nancy (late Bob) Apel. Alex was the loving grandfather of Kim (Brad) Goeglein, Kurt Terandy, Eric, Janelle and Alex (Stacey) Ustian, Lauren Apel and dearest Papa to great grandchildren, Kyle and Brooke Goeglein. Alex was a fond brother in law to many and a caring uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elko and Helen (nee Lawryk) Ustian and he was the son in law of the late Kalman and Catherine (nee Pridavok) Zemen. Visitation will be on Sunday, March 6, 2011 from 1:00-6:00 PM at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN and Monday from 9:30-10:00 AM at the church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10:00 AM at St. Ann Church, Lansing, IL. Interment will be at St. Joseph / St. John Cemetery, Hammond, IN. Alex served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a former resident of Harvey, IL and graduated from Thornton Township High School. He worked at Wyman Gordon for over 40 years as a journeyman machinist. He was extremely handy and could fix almost anything. He loved sports and was a Cubs Fan for over 80 years. He bowled until a few years ago. He enjoyed fishing and attending sporting events with his sons. Alex enjoyed gardening and had quite a green thumb. He will be truly missed by all his family and friends who were blessed by his caring ways, wonderful smile and soft spirit.
