Alice Lanman, age 41, passed away on November 29, 2025, from complications of melanoma.
She is survived by her parents, Peter and Dawn; sisters, Sarah-Anne and Elisabeth; and beloved dog, Sheila Pickles. Alice is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who loved her dearly. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Bob and Sally Lanman and Mildred Vajagich, as well as her uncle Bruce.
Born on May 6, 1984, Alice grew up in Munster, Indiana. Although having two undergraduate degrees, French and International business from Purdue and a Nursing degree from Ivy Tech, she worked throughout her life as a bartender, server, and hostess extraordinaire—Roles that reflected her gift for making people feel cared for, welcomed, and well fed. She loved animals fiercely, beginning with horses and horseback riding during childhood, a passion she expanded when she moved to Kentucky. Many people don’t know how beautifully she played the piano. For the past twenty years, her constant and loyal companion was her dog, Sheila Pickles, known to everyone who knew Alice.
Alice lived with authenticity and independence. She cared deeply, loved fiercely, and always put others first. She would want those she touched to keep living boldly, fully, and on their own terms. May her memory be a blessing.
Donations in her honor may be made to the Hobart Humane Society, Humane Indiana, or any type of animal rescue organization.
