Andrew A. Bjelland, of Munster, passed away Saturday, April 4, 2015. Andy was born in Leland, IL on May 29, 1924 to Harold and Emma Bjelland. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ruth, his daughters Nancy (Steve) Kremer and Joan (Dave) Stevenson, grandchildren Mark, Brad, and Dan Kremer and Ben and Kristen Stevenson, sisters, Doris Rubenking and Janice Decker, and many nieces and nephews. Andy was preceded in death by his sister, Eleanor Harms, and brothers, Howard and Robert Bjelland. Andy graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor's and Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. He served his country stateside during WWII and the Korean Conflict as a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S.Army. He worked at Amoco Oil for 33 years until his retirement in 1984 as Manager of Cost Engineering. He was a Registered Professional Engineerand a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He was an active and integral part of Westminster Presbyterian Church and served faithfully over the years as a deacon and assistant treasurer. His retirement with Ruth was filled with spending time with those he cherished most through travels and reunions with his children and grandchildren. They enjoyed spending winters in Naples playing tennis and golf with friends. His kind and loving nature and positive attitude will be truly missed by all of the many lives that he touched. He was always a calming, stable influence to his family and served as a guiding light helping to navigate the challenges of life. Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 18th at 11:00 a.m. followed by a memorial service at noon at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Munster IN. Donations in Andy's memory may be made to the church or to a charity of the donor's choice.
