Anthony Oppolo, 88 of Schererville, IN formerly of East Chicago, IN passed away on Thursday, March 24, 2011. He is survived by his son, James (Kathleen) Oppolo; daughter, Janet (Damian) Wozniak; grandchildren, James Oppolo, Nicole (Brian )Jacobs, Lauren (David) Bukovac, Jenna and Joy Wozniak; 5 great grandchildren; sisters, Josephine (late John) Bracco and Carmela (late Irving) Smith; He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Cecilia (nee Spanier); brother, Leo (Elsie) Oppolo and sister, Anne (Walter) Sobkowicz. Visitation will be on Sunday, March 27, 2011 from 2:00-7:00 PM at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 12:30 PM at St. Michael Church, 1 Wilhelm St. Schererville, IN. Interment will be at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville, IN. We feel privileged to have known him, his giving spirit and zest for life are an inspiration to us all. We will certainly miss his laughter but know that we will feel his love each time we gather to enjoy a good meal, watch football or simply enjoy life. Tony served with the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II. He was a member of American Legion Allied Post 369 and the Cesare Battisti Lodge 27.
