He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Barbara; Loving father of Roger (Monique) Cardwell, Becky (Bill) Griffin and Rhonda Dowd; cherished grandfather of Derek Griffin, Jessica Cardwell, Roger Cardwell Jr, Billy Griffin, Tyler Dowd and Kaylie Dowd; proud great grandfather of Isabella and Giuliana; fond brother of Danny (Judy) Cardwell; mother-in-law, Gladys Johnson; sisters-in-law, Sandra Smith, Wylene (Bobby) Perkins, Diane (Wally) Steenerson, Gail Taylor and Judy Thomas; brothers-in-laws, Gary (April) Thomas and Jerry Thomas; numerous nieces and nephews, 3 uncles. He was Paw Paw to many. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Mattie Lou Cardwell. Visitation will be on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 from 3:00-8:00 PM at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN. Funeral service will be on Thursday, September 4, 2014 at 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery, Hammond, IN. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Hammond Optimist Youth Sports or St. John Bosco School, Hammond, IN.
