Barbara Haubensak, 80 of Lansing, Il passed away March 25, 2020 in Munster, IN. Barbara was born on December 8, 1939 the daughter of Frank and Margaret Young. She is survived by her children Kimberly (David) Wesen, Elizabeth (Jeffrey) Johnson and Laura (Kenneth) Melvin as well as her siblings Joan Wagner, Carol Dedina and Jerry Young. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren Megan, Andy, Ryan, Lauren,Haley, Jarrett, Matthew and Brooklyn. 2 great grandchildren Jaxxon and Maxxwell also survive Barbara. She is preceded in death by her loving husband William and passed away in 2009, as well as her parents. Funeral services will be held at Kish Funeral Home 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN on Saturday March 28, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. Services will be private due to our recent circumstances. Memorials may be made out to the family for a memorial to be established.

I almost hate to call someone an "institution", because it sounds so impersonal, and Barb was anything but. Yet she was so much a part of the Park District, she was practically a part of our atmosphere, like oxygen. And all the time she was away, it was as if we were missing something integral. I don't think any of us lost the feeling that her desk was HER DESK, and there was something very wrong with not seeing her sitting there, no matter how much time had passed. All I know is, things aren't going to be the same without her, and we'll all miss her very much.

My sincerest condolences to GG’s friends and family. GG always welcomed me with open arms and was such a sweet soul. One of my fondest memories with her was making Christmas cookies with the other grandchildren and great grandchildren and while she wasn’t my Gram by blood, I still love her like she was. What a gal, a true CMPD gem! CMPD was lucky to have Barb and all of us that worked there with Barb where blessed; to have her firm but wise input, her laugh as she walked away when one would not take her advice and her ability to keep up with all of us! One of the my many memories of Barb was when she called me to let me know she was in Vegas; we met for lunch and I felt HONORED, that she would think of me. What a lady! God bless you Laura and all of Barb's family.

Barb was one of my favorite people at CMPD. If you needed help, Barb was there. If you needed a kick in the pants (and many of us did), she was there for that too. She was loving, kind, funny and no-nonsense. My favorite memories of Barb are her holding court at the Boss' slot machines and her keeping all those drop-in center seniors and casino trip attendees in line. She is definitely on my CMPD Hall of Fame!
