Bennie Dobbs, 78, of Lansing, IL passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 16, 1936 in Grand Tower, Illinois to Lavern and Edna Dobbs. Bennie is survived by his wife of 49 years, Patricia (Keeton); son, Christopher (Elizabeth) Dobbs; grandchildren, Julianna, Alexandria and Jason Dobbs of Normal, IL; twin sister, Barbara Cripps of Johnston City, IL; brothers, Ronald (Donna) Dobbs of Marion, IL and Gary (Cindi) Dobbs of Valparaiso, IN; sister-in-law, Lenora Dobbs; many nieces and nephews. Bennie was preceded in death by his parents, Lavern and Edna Dobbs; brother, Richard, Dobbs and brother-in-law, James Cripps. Bennie was retired from Stolt Nielsen in Chicago after 33 years. He then worked part time for 12 years at Walt’s Food in South Holland, IL. He served his country in the United States Army during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He enjoyed wood working, fishing, golfing and camping. He was a member of The First Baptist Church in Griffith, IN. Visitation will be on Friday, April 24, 2015 from 3:00-8:00 PM at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN. Funeral service will be on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at 10:00 AM at The First Baptist Church, 324 N. Colfax, Griffith, IN. with Pastor Scott Hobbs officiating. Interment will be at Chapel Lawn Memorial gardens, Schererville, IN. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Cancer Research at the University of Chicago in his memory would be appreciated.
