Berdine D. Brown, 89, of Munster, IN formerly of Whiting, Chicago and Calumet City passed away on Wednesday, July 30, 2014, surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Ada Kissen, of Whiting, IN. Beloved wife of 68 years of Fred Brown of Munster, IN; loving mother of Dr. Lorin (Helen) Brown of Munster, IN and Dr. Sheldon (Mindy) Brown of Scottsdale, AZ; Grandmother Cookie to David (Colleen), Rebecca, Alison and Jason; great grandmother to Jackson and Avery; sister of Ella Rhee (nee Kissen) Lyon. A private graveside service will held for the family. Visitation will be at 7:00 PM with a Shiva service at 8:00 PM on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at Temple Beth-El, 10001 Columbia Ave. Munster, IN. Berdine was born in Whiting, IN, attended George Rogers Clark High School and Indiana University, where she received a degree in elementary education. She was a public school teacher at George Rogers Clark High School and later on the south side of Chicago, including Washington Elementary School.
