Bobby Jean Dycus, fondly known as BJ, 65 of Munster, Indiana passed away on the 4th of September, 2016 peacefully in her home with her family and friends present. Bobby fought a brave and long battle against cancer for 16 years. She was born December 26, 1950 in Madison, Wisconsin, to parents, Robert Carroll Dycus and Mary Lucille Thomas Dycus. Who preceded her in death. Bobby is survived by her sisters, Carroll Lee (Paul) Carter, Mary Ann (Frank) Szyper, Dorothy Kay Dycus, Janet Sue Randall, and brothers William James Dycus, and Davy Thomas Dycus; as well as several nieces and nephews and 2 grand nieces along with her life long friend and roommate, Kim E. Mullen. Her list of survivors also includes her very close friends; Deb and Greg Hansen, Ruth Parkhurst, Ruth Mueller, Karen Horvatich, Janet Salinas, and Denise Schaffer, as well as numerous friends and colleagues from the Hammond Public School System and St. Paul Lutheran Church and School in Munster, Indiana. Bobby was a1969 graduate is Gavit High School in Hammond, Indiana and continued on in her education at Purdue University where she received a B.A. in education and a Masters in Library Science with an endorsement in reading from Indiana University. Bobby held many positions in the Hammond School System during her 35 plus years as an elementary school teacher, resource and media center specialist, and Librarian. Bobby was a longtime member of the Hammond Area Reading Counsel where she served as the coordinator for the yearly Young Authors Conference. She was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma. Bobby was a member of St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Munster as well as a valued volunteer in the St Paul’s Lutheran School. Her work at the Lutheran School touched and impacted the lives of many students over many years. Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran School for a designated fund in honor of Bobby Dycus Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 from 2:00-8:00 pm at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN. and on Wednesday from 10:00-11:00 am at the church. Funeral service will be on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at 11:00 am at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 8601 Harrison Ave. Munster, IN. interment will be private.
