Carolyn Jean Smiley, 80 of Highland, IN formerly of Munster, IN passed away on Saturday, January 29, 2022. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Edward; daughter, Terri Kohler; son, Mike (Stephanie) Smiley; grandchildren, Becky (Eric) Larsen, Kevin (Ashley) Kohler, Amanda (Matt) Sefton, Randy (Amanda) Baranowski Jr., Jonathan Smiley and Matthew Smiley; son-in-law, Randy Baranowski Sr.; sisters, Elaine Spudic and Phyllis Rueth; great grandchildren, Annabelle, Claire, Gabriel and Natalia Larsen, Thomas Sefton and Jacob White; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lottie Spudic; daughter, Anne Baranowski; great grandchildren, Isaac Larsen and Aria Sefton.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, February 7, 2022 at 10:00 am at St. Thomas More Church, 8501 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN.  Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Calumet City, IL. Visitation will be on Sunday, February 6, 2022 from 2:00-6:00 pm with a prayer service at 4:00 pm at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN and on Monday from 9:30-10:00 am at the church.

Carolyn was a longtime parishioner and member of St. Thomas More Church, the church choir and the Altar and Rosary Society.  She was an avid Bull’s fan and enjoyed watching games on TV. Carolyn was a loving grandma to her grandchildren and Busia to her great grandchildren.

My grandma was the best grandma. Her grandkids were so important to her and she showed it constantly. Growing up each grandkid would get a lunch with grandma at the restaurant of their choosing and do some birthday shopping. Even when she wasn't sure how she was going to pay the credit card bill, that grandpa was never to know about, she willingly made sure her grandkids had what they needed. I am going to miss her so much. Love you Grandma ❤️❤️
