Carrie Szumelda, 91 of Burr Oak, MI and Munster, IN passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 31, 2013. Loving mother of Ronald (Judy), Thomas (Mary) and William Szumelda; cherished grandmother of Amanda, Joey, Alexandra and Brendan; sister-in-law, Helen Bazelewski; preceded in death by her husband, Joseph in 1990parents, John and Katherine Bazelewski; siblings, Joe, Lucian (Helen) and Stanley Ostrowski, Virginia (Frank) Rosiak, Bruno (Estelle) and Vencelaus Bazelewski. Funeral service will be Monday, August 5, 2013 at 9:15 AM at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN with a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Andrew the Apostle Church, Calumet City, IL. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Calumet City, IL. Visitation will be on Sunday August 4, 2013 from 2:00-6:00 PM at the funeral home. Carrie graduated from St Michael Grade School in 1936. She was a Carmelite member, avid bingo player, 50 year member of the Ladies Rosary Club, longtime member of the St. Andrew’s Sunshine Club and Our Lady of Knock Friendship Club, Carrie was a professional Knitter both student and teacher. She was formerly employed at Riches Box Factory, Calumet City VFW Post as a caterer, Goldblatt’s in the TV department and as an Oiler at U.S. Steel Southworks.
