Catherine Hruskocy (nee Wynne) 89, formerly of Whiting, IN passed away peacefully at home Wednesday morning March 13, 2024 in Schererville IN.
She was born June 23, 1934, in Chicago IL to Raymond and Colette (Howell) Wynne.
Catherine was a graduate of Saint Patrick’s Elementary School and Mercy High School in Chicago IL.
She married Stephen Hruskocy on November 11, 1959 at St Patrick Church, Chicago IL. She met him ballroom dancing at Madura’s Danceland. They loved to dance.
She was a shoe model for Tweedie’s Footwear Corporation and Florsheim Shoes on State Street in Chicago IL. Her size four foot with a high arch was specialized prized by the shoemakers.
After marriage and three beautiful children she became a crossing guard at the corner of 121st Street and Indianapolis Boulevard in Whiting IN.
She worked for the well-known Chicago caterers Gaper’s and Feree – Florsheim for 30 plus years. The many guests she met during these years included; Chicago mayors; Richard J Daley, Michael Bilandic, Jane Byrne, and Harold Washington, numerous U.S. Presidents, at least two Popes, many of the great philanthropic leaders in the Chicagoland area, and even Princess Diana during her 1996 visit to Chicago.
In addition to being a very good dancer, she was very artistic. She learned to sew in high school and had a great talent for clothing design. She sewed much of her own clothes, her children’s clothes, many bridesmaid dresses for cousins, nieces, and friends, plus the entire cheerleading teams for her 2 daughters during grade school. She loved to paint ceramics, bowls, platters, and other decorative crafts.
She loved to shop and spent time with her extended family.
Her proudest accomplishments were her kids and grandchildren. When they said; “I love you Mom/Grandma.” Her favorite reply was “I love you more!”
She is survived by her children and their spouses; Marycolette Hruskocy and Ron Chupp, Catherine Butynski, Stephen and Mary Beth Hruskocy; grandchildren Sophia Hruskocy, Matthew Hruskocy and Gretchen Sosa (Pierre) and great grandson Lucien Sosa.
She was preceded in death by her parents Raymond and Colette Wynne, husband Stephen Hruskocy, sister Mary Colette Dinnocenzo, brother-in-law Louis Dinnocenzo, son-in-law Thomas Butynski and fond in-laws; Andy (Jane) Hruskocy, Marge (Mike) Skundrich, Joe (Virginia) Hruskocy, Tom (Marge) Hruskocy, Mary (George) Grenchik, Milton “Moon” (Theresa) Hruskocy, John (Connie) Hruskocy.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday March 19th from 4-8pm at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Ave in Munster IN. Funeral mass will be held on Wednesday March 20th at 10 am, St Maria Goretti Church in Dyer IN. Interment will follow at Calumet Park in Merrillville IN.
