David L. Gott

David LeRoy Gott, 94, passed away on Sunday, November 18, 2012 at Hartsfield Village in Munster, Indiana where he authored a weekly publication, The Jabberwock. He was born October 20, 1918 in Wheeler, IN. He is survived by one daughter, Jana St. James of West Hills, CA; and two sons, John and Ward Gott of Naples, FL; a sister, Phyllis (late Raymond) Daniels of Green Valley, AZ; four grandchildren, Stacey Furrer, Allison, Ryan and Jason Gott; Niece, Chloe (Warren) Ohr of Highland, IN and nephew, Gerald (late Rita) Gott of Plant City, FL. Preceded in death by wife of 55 years, Estelle (nee Camp) in April of 2003 and their son, David Lawrence (1953). Also, preceded in death by wife of one year, Kathy (nee Cooper) (1944), brother, Gerald T. Gott and parents, Thaddeus and Jean Gott, of Valparaiso, IN. He was a member of the Woodmar Country Club; retired from Inland Steel’s Wage and Salary department with 31 years of service; served as a deacon of First Presbyterian Church of Hammond, and Westminster Presbyterian Church of Munster; graduated class of ‘37 Valparaiso High School; graduated South Bend College of Commerce 1940; and graduated Class of ‘48 Indiana University; post-grad work, Purdue Calumet, University of Chicago, and Kent College of Law. Mr. Gott was active in community affairs. He served as President of Munster PTA; Little League Coach; Founder/member of Munster High School Booster Club; Executive Director of Munster Chamber of Commerce (81-86); President of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Alumni Association; Member and Vice President of Hammond Jaycees; active in Lake Area United Way as Loaned Executive, Board of Director, and member of the Allocations Committee; Author of 70 years of his poetry, Friends, Family and Filosofy; CalPress Correspondent for Calumet Press News and HeyRegion.com. He served five years in the Army during WWII 1941-46 and was separated from active duty as a Captain, Infantry; a Life Member of Reserve Officer’s Association; he was President of Chapter 19 and Vice President Air Department of Indiana; transferred from Army Reserve to the Air Force Reserve in 1954 where he attained the rank of Lt. Colonel, assigned to USAFRR in 1972. Visitation will be on Friday, November 23, 2012 from 4:00-7:00 PM with a service at 6:00 PM at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Avenue in Munster, Indiana. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be given to Lake Area United Way, 221 West Ridge Road, Griffith, IN 46319.
