It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of David Lee James, 72, of Munster. David was called home to his Lord and Savior on Thursday, November 6, 2025, with his family by his side.
He was born on July 20, 1953, to Claude and Mona Dolores James. David spent most of his life in Northwest Indiana, where he built a successful career as a Certified Public Accountant. He owned and operated his own firm for many years, serving hundreds of clients who depended on him—many of whom became close friends. He was a lifelong sports fan and athlete. He played baseball and football from a young age and later on became a dedicated golfer.
David is survived by his children, Jenny (Nathan) Challis of Indianapolis, Mark (Sasha) James of Costa Mesa, California, and Jessica James of Indianapolis; his beloved sisters, Carol (Bruce) Gulledge and Beverly James; and his two grandchildren, Romee Challis and Leo James, whom he adored. He also had many nieces and nephews brought joy to his life.
He is also survived by his in-laws—Janet Cleland, Dianne Carlsson, Lily Carlsson, Patrick (Elena) Carlsson, Tim (Pauline) Cleland, Gary Cleland, and Beth Garrigus—as well as his loving partner and soulmate of 14 years, Tammy Cleland, and his many cherished fur-babies.
Services for David will be held at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN. on Saturday, November 15, 2025. Visitation will take place from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., with a service to follow at 6:00 p.m.
David was loved by many. His kindness, humor, and generous spirit touched countless lives. He leaves behind an emptiness that will never be filled.
