Donald A. Akers, 78 of Schererville, IN passed away on Saturday, June 2, 2012. Beloved husband for 52 years of Diane (nee Whitman); loving father of Deb (Keith) Kuhn; cherished grandfather of Hannah and Leah; caring brother of Kathleen Akers; Preceded in death by his son: David Akers. Visitation will be on Thursday, June 7, 2012 from 3:00-8:00 PM at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN. Funeral service will be Friday at 10:00 AM at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 508 Chicago Rd. Thornton, IL with Pastor Harold Wahl officiating; Interment will be at Chapel Hill Garden South Cemetery, Oaklawn, IL. Donald retired from the Illinois Central Railroad and served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was an active member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the church in his memory would be appreciated.
