Donald Robert Lammering, age 94, of Munster, IN, passed away on Thursday, December 15, 2016. He is survived by his loving wife, of 67 years, Elsie (nee Kohler) Lammering; children, Donna Rae (Richard) Nichols, Dale Ellen (Daniel) Doogs and Richard Alan (Patricia) Lammering; grandchildren, Christen (Leo) Morand, Kimberly (Mark) Fletcher, Eric Nichols, Brian Doogs, Kayce Doogs, Danielle Lammering and Ryan Lammering; great-grandchildren, Noah Fletcher, Lucy Morand, Claire Morand, Benjamin Fletcher, Robert Morand and Hannah Fletcher; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and five siblings. Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 23, 2016 at Ridge United Methodist Church 8607 Columbia Ave. Munster, IN, with Reverend Michelle Knight, officiating. Visitation will be on Friday, at the church, from 1:00 p.m. until the 2:00 p.m. service. Interment will be held at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery Elwood, IL at a later date. Donald Robert was born on November 3, 1922 in Hammond, IN to James and Edna Lammering. He enlisted at the University of Illinois ROTC on June 22, 1942, and graduated with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 1944. Donald was sent to the India, China, and Burma Theatre with the Army Corps of Engineers and was Honorably Discharged, as a Captain, on January 30, 1947. He joined Bachman and Bertram & Associates, in January of 1947, as Chief Mechanical Engineer, through 1958. Donald was a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers and the Indiana Society of Professional engineers. He was a Registered Engineer in IN and IL. Donald married Elsie Mae Kohler on April 16, 1949, and were blessed with three beautiful children. He was Partner in charge of Mechanical Engineering for Bachman and Bertram & Associates from 1958 to 1971, and served as President of the Indiana Society of Professional Engineers in 1959. Donald was Partner in charge of Mechanical Engineering for Wm. J. Bachman & Partners, from 1971 to 1981, and Partner in charge of Mechanical Engineering for Wm. J. Bachman & Associates, Inc., from 1981 to 1990. He served as a Consulting Engineer to the Bachman Partnership from June 1990 until he “officially retired” in 2006. Donald had the distinguished honor of completing 50 years with the Bachman organization on December 31, 1996. He served may chairs in the Hammond Kiwanis Club of Hammond, IN; served as President of the Board of Trustees at the First Presbyterian Church of Hammond, IN; was Clerk of Session for Westminster Presbyterian Church of Munster, IN; was a member and Committee member of Ridge United Methodist Church Munster, IN; and was a member of the American Legion Post- Indianapolis, IN. In lieu of flowers’ memorials may be made in Donald’s name, to the Community Hospital of Munster.
