Donald W. Payne, 91 of Munster, IN passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2015. He was born in Michigan on June 6, 1924. He graduated from Roosevelt High School, after graduation he joined the Navy. After he got out of the Navy, he worked for Commonwealth Edison. He married Helen on June 23, 1972. Don has one sister, Velma Regurrah who lives in Michigan. He has two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Carter and Dorothy Fischer. He has one son, John (Regina) Payne and one daughter, Nancy (Victor) Spurlock. He has two step daughters, Pamela (Paul) Bohelski and Donna Thompson and two step sons, Larry Topolski and the late Douglas Topolski. He has 12 grandchildren, John, Jim and Rebecca Payne, Joseph and Thomas Bohelski, Dustin, Brandon, Matthew and Dillon Thompson, Abby and Brooke Topolski and Andrew Spurlock. He has 8 great grandchildren, Madison, Jackson, Lelah, Lucy, Harper, Landry, Thomas and Isabella. His former wife, Shirley. What a wonderful family. He was very active in the American Legion and the Forty and Eight. He was a life member of the American Legion and was also a life member of the VFW. He was commander of the American Legion 3 times and State Commander too. He belongs to the Dyer Baptist Church in Dyer, Indiana; that was his second family. Don loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren very much. He said, “the house was lonely without them.” He loved working with the Veterans as long as he was able to do so. He also loved to paint by numbers and hook rug until his eye sight would no longer let him. He will be dearly missed. Visitation will be on Thursday, July 16, 2015 from 4:00-8:00 PM at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 calumet Ave. Munster, IN. Funeral service will be on Friday, July 17, 2015 at 10:00 AM at the Dyer Baptist Church, 735 213th St. Dyer, IN. Interment will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Plum Creek Christian Academy in his memory would be appreciated.
